I realize now that I'm going to have to keep track of what I eat. Now, mind you, I'm not on the Atkins Diet, but I'd like to not consume more than 100gs of carbs a day.

So far, I've had a cup of cereal with half a cup of milk. Plus a small glass of Crystal Light (5 calories per serving, nothing else :D). I have to cook tonight, and since there's nothing much in the house...there's rice, yakisoba, and stir fry. Noodles and rice = carbs up the ying-yang. So I figure I will eat more of the stir fry and only have a little of the noodles and rice.

...oh yeah, I have to stop drinking coffee. Must wean self. ~_~

I'm in a slump. I keep buying junk food (like a can of cream soda and reese's) for lunch. I've lost the desire to exercise.

How do I get myself motivated again?

I craved a bean burrito all day.
Mmmmmmmmmm.... I <3 bean burrito + sour cream...
I did VERY well today. Didn't cheat at all, had my buddy Britney make me a coffee I COULD have (sugar free flavors, decaf, and with half and half)
drank lots of water
ate a taco style salad with no tortilla chips, lots of mushrooms, meat and cheese. MMM sour cream
got myself some celery .. found I like celery and peanut butter :) yay
*holds up old bathingsuit* soon my precioussssss ;D

And for the love of God, don't drink/eat anything with aspartame in it. If it's a "diet" substitute or something that claims it's "sugar-free!," check its ingredients for something call aspartame.

Not only does aspartame cause weight-loss trouble for those on low-carb diets (or any diet, I think), it also causes sugar cravings--and, beyond that, has been linked with a number of possible health problems.

If you really need a sugar substitute though, you might want to try products with something called SUCRALOSE in them. While sucralose has its own possible health problems, it's the reccomended choice for those low-carb runners.

In the end, your best bet is to probably research these artificial sugars, as each seems to have health issues related to them.

First and foremost, I'd like to welcome Amanda to Total Losers. :beams: We're up to four members now, yay! I hope we're all able to help her a little bit.

Now, beyond that--

I just got back from doing a nice twenty-minute round of exercise. Delicious light aerobics coupled with muscle training, yar. One thing I've really noticed is that it's become a lot easier to control any motions done with my arms and legs. I like this feeling, and I hope you all have a chance to experience this--if you haven't already. ;D

I'm eating regularly, for the most part. However, I am making sure to reduce my portion sizes. This is a nice little thing to do. :nods: If you do it right, at first, you'll feel hungry after eating--but, after all, your stomach pocket will shrink to accomodate.. :d

Just don't starve yourself, dumbass. And remember--if you're still hungry after you've had a meal, drink a glass of water (all of it) and wait fifteen minutes. If you're still hungry after that, you might as well eat something because you'll do your body no favors by starving it.

And I'm down to 137. :d

Hi! My name is Amanda, and today was my first day on the Atkins diet. I'm 5 foot 4 and 145lbs. I'm very content with myself, but I'd like to be a lot healthier. I think the hardest thing for me to give up is going to be coffee. I enjoy my wonderful kick start in the morning (ok ok.. LATE evening..) So far in day one it's been difficult because I look at the things I'd normally eat, and I can't have them. Makes me sad. Aww.. Well I'm going to try! Tomorrow is buy new food for Amanda at Walmart Day :D YAy :D

.. well, I'm still 140. It's kind of amusing--because, as long as I don't eat Taco Bell, I'm certain my weight won't change any. I apparently have a nice figure, as told to me by complete strangers, but I still want to lose those last five or ten pounds..

.. sigh. I'm not sure what to do, really. I'm watching what I eat, but I'm not being a carb nazi. I'm exercising, though I'm certainly not killing myself in the effort. And I still weigh 140.

Not really sure what to do.. :p

Maybe I'm doomed to 140 as my new weight.

11:16 pm - I think my scale's broken. XD

I weighed m'self...and it says I'm 205/206. (My scale goes from like...150lbs to 160lbs, etc, with lines between them. So I have to guess.)

The problem: haven't been doing anything.

It's that time of the month, and I feel...well...crappy. I don't exercise during the whole week. I feel a bit bloated and somewhat crampy and headachy so I don't even walk. I've even had two pieces of yummy chocolate cake in the past three/four days.

Butttttt since school started I haven't been eating breakfast (not enough time in the morning) nor lunch (school food, bleeeeeech), and drinking lots of diet soda. So I guess that has something to do with it. :x

So once I don't feel crampy and stuff I can start exercising again. Hopefully my brothers will inhale the chocolate cake and I won't have to worry about it tempting me. (The double fudge brownie ice cream is gone too, thank god. I started craving a bowl about three hours ago, but no ice cream...no bowl. :D)

My goal: lose up to 5 pounds a month. Be pissed if I don't lose 2 to 3. Rejoice if I lose more than five. Woo!

I don't have any tips for you guys today. Sorry. :x

.. four hours of Dance Dance Revolution. Over four hours straight of dancing to that horribly addictive game.

So much pain, but so much delight. Even stranger, though, is how I managed to last that long. I really don't know.

For breakfast, I had half a glass of orange juice--and, since my back was hurting, I popped two asprin. I was planning on getting some food early at Taco Bell, but.. I totally forgot about eating until, uh, around one when I realized I hadn't ate yet and was still feeling fine.. o_o

So I put some chicken in a bowl, tossed in some cheese, tomatoes, and white onions..

.. and that's all I have until about nine-twenty. Well, save for about a whole glass of OJ broken up into three smaller shots over a period of four hours.

At nine-twenty, I had a shallow bowl of spaghetti.

I'm still not feeling hungry. Despite +four hours of DDR, I didn't feel exhausted. My muscles began to hurt, but I didn't feel exhausted..


What the hell was I running ON? :o

Sigh. ;(

I checked myself on the scale this morning and it read, like, 140 or 141. While I'm used to reading this after, say, a steak dinner, I'm not used to reading this in the morning. My only hope is that I put on some nice muscle mass, as opposed to gaining back a pound or two of fat.

Because, if I did, I'm so boggled. o_O

All I had yesterday was a pb/j, two tuna sandwiches, some chicken salad, and some.. weird.. thing.

I figure I probably should do a little introduction post on myself. I guess I’ll start with my weight history. Well..not all of it, but the important stuff. I’m 5’7” ish…maybe a tad taller, and I currently weight about 168, my highest weight being 286. Yes, that’s not a typo. I actually weighed 286. That was when I decided it was time to seek help from a nutritionist. We went thru my dieting history, and discussed the times when my major weight gain occurred and she came to the conclusion that I was among a small group of people that can’t possibly lose weight from diet and exercise because of a physiological problem, and pretty much my only option would be to have gastric bypass. I struggled with the idea of surgery for well over a year, and decided that if I was going to have any sort of decent life with my 4 yr old, being able to play and keep up with him, it was really my only option. In addition to that, diabetes runs in my family and I was dangerously close to getting it. So, on July 11th, 2002, I had gastric bypass. It was terrifying, but definitely worth it in the long run. I’m still not skinny by any stretch of the imagination and I have a long way to go, but I’m definitely headed in the right direction. So now, losing weight isn’t as much the issue with me anymore because I pretty much lose it without really thinking about it anymore (actually, that’s not quite true. I still have to watch what I eat, but it’s much easier to do that when feel nauseous if you eat too much)…exercising is where I need to motivate myself. After weighing 286 lbs and losing nearly 120 lbs, you can imagine that toning is a necessity at this point. I get all gung-ho over some new exercise I wanna try and I do it once and think to myself ‘why on earth would anyone put themselves thru this’. Crappy attitude, I know but I also know that I eventually find an exercise that I can actually somewhat enjoy if I keep looking. Unfortunately, in the meantime, I’m sitting here on my ass at the computer and my keyboard gets far more exercise than any of my muscles ever get. I have a Gazelle freestyle machine thingy which I actually do like doing but like every other machine I’ve ever purchased, it’s gather dust in my exercise room. Yes, I have an entire room dedicated to exercise machines that I don’t use. I have a Gazelle, a Universal, a Total Gym, a treadmill, and free-weights. And none of them get used. I think that mentally I’m closer to being in the place where I’m ready to take that final step to motivation, but I don’t know what will make it click. Hopefully this group will be the catalyst :)

Ok..now that you are all bored from that entirely too long of a post, I guess I’ll make an exercise cd :P

Here's a nifty fact..

Q. How many calories make 1 pound of weight?

About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.

If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.


Now, all I need to do is figure out how many calories my body burns per day, and.. :p

I find it amusing--though somewhat saddening--you and I are the only posters so far. I hope that picks up in future weeks.

Besides that, I'm kind of curious as to the legitimacy of Dance Dance Revolution when I spend an hour playing it and it says I've burnt something over 500 calories. It really doesn't feel like it, considering I spent twenty minutes on a stair-climbing thing, burnt 200 calories, and felt pretty exhausted.

Wish I had some way to verify DDR-calorie-burning. D;

Kay. The tip first.

If you're worried about junk food, here's a simple solution: DON'T HAVE ANY. If you don't have that bag of cookies in the drawer, you don't have to worry about eating them. Or, if you've got to have something sweet every once in a while (I know I do @_@), simply buy a candy bar every once in a while, or hide your snacks in a difficult place. Like up high, or buried behind something. Somewhere that would require a lot of effort to get a hold of, and leave you wondering "Do I really want to do all that for a candy bar?". Even though diet soda has a lot of nasty stuff in it (in my opinion, we all die of something, so for me, it'll be diet soda), it still has NO calories, NO carbs, NO fat, and very little sodium. It can be a semi-good subsitute for you soda-holics. Or, if you don't want to risk it, try water (I need to drink more of it m'self) or fruit juice. :D There's always a healthier alternative for almost anything.

Now, question. Do any of you know exericises that target the inner thigh? :x

A nifty tip for dieters!

Whatever you eat, cut it in half. One of the best things you can do for yourself while dieting is to (a) only eat half of what's on your plate or (b) only prepare half of what you used to. Also, if you plan to do any exercise, make sure to have a light meal about an hour before exercise so you actually have the energy to burn through it.

Besides that, I'm doing fine. :beams: I had myself a smoothie today--and while I know it's loaded with sugar, I'm counting it as half of my carb intake for the day. It was so delicious. ;_;

My name's Kythe. I'm a moderator, and I'm here to not only lose weight, but also to encourage and help others to lose weight. As of posting this, there are only two of us--so that's GREAT! It should be easy to help one other person. XD

I'm five-foot-six, and I weigh 139. Yes, I know--ONLY 139? I actually started off at 145, and have lost six pounds so far on a low-carb diet with plenty of delicious exercise. I know I'm not fat--but, on the other hand, I know I'm not where I need to be. When I'm finished, I hope to weigh somewhere between 130-135.

However, once I hit the mark, I plan to continue with Total Losers--as, having "tasted the fruit" that is the dieting/exercise/"I think I'm fat" world, I really want to help others achieve their goal.
